SAD - Standard American Diet...

The standard American diet is horrible. Not enough fruits and veggies, too much processed foods ect.

Well today while I was grocery shopping with my mom I noticed what the lady in front of us had put in the conveyer belt. There was 4 kinds of fruit punch, a few kinds of soda, hamburger helper, some meat, candy, and not one fruit or vegetable.

Where I live there are a lot of people on food stamps and assistance. Junk food is cheaper than good food, but that really isn't an excuse for eating like that. It isn't good for her or her children.

I'm not saying that my diet is perfect, it is far from perfect. But I do eat whole foods everyday and I am eating a lot more fruits and veggies than I used to. I am still phasing out my teenage diet because I know that I need to set a good example for my son. I am working on cutting out pop again and I need to eat a lot less meat. But at least I'm trying.

So what are your favorite whole foods?

  1. I'm trying to fix my diet as well... less chocolate, less sode, less pizza and the list goes on. I know I need to do this before my little one develops the habit as well. My biggest problem is I never eat fruit. I love me some veggies though I think that is the only good aspect of my diet. :(

  2. I trick myself into eating fruit, I keep a bunch of grapes on the counter and then when I munch, I munch on them since they are right there.

  3. Good for you. I am really loving museli at the moment and adding extra nuts and dried banana to it. I thought it would be bird food but I love it! Mich x

  4. I eat museli with nuts and dried fruit mixed into greek yogurt. It makes the yogurt go further and you get a lot of protein out of the yogurt.

  5. you should check out a movie called food inc where they talk about why junk or processed food costs less than fresh produce

and when it comes to "whole foods" anything heirloom and bought at a farmers market. we're huge organic/heirloom people
